Album reviews:

Damn music can be catchy. The opening tune Asunder Heart refuses to leave me everytime when i push the play-button. Bombastic, catchy prog always feels good here. Both my wife and i enjoyed every second of it. Expedition Delta is a project from guitar player Srdjan Brankovic who is one of the founders of Alogia. He didn’t do the album on his own, there is a long list of guests on this album. The problem with such things is that an album has a chance to fall apart because of all the guests but in this case it works perfect. Song after song is fired at you and damn all of them have the problem of sticking in my head. A band that comes up on some tracks for me is Jefferson Airplane expecially the first track. If you like bombastic prog music you need to have this album. Some people state prog should have long tracks where a band can show what they can. In return i state that Srdjan shows that short bombastic tracks can beat the "must have long tracks" statement."

After listening to the Roswell Six I had a look at the Progrock Records website and found this gem. Srdjan Brankovic is a Serbian musician who’s a very busy man, playing guitar on, and producing, a vast number of records. This prog rock project is not technically female fronted, so don’t sue me under the trade descriptions act, but does feature a number of guest female singers, including my favourite singer on the planet, Sabine Edelsbacher from Edenbridge. The music is big melodic rock, Asia. Journey, Foreigner, Heart, with strong Ayreon and Dream Theatre influences. There are a host of guest keyboard players, many of which will be very familiar to you, including Joost van den Broek (After Forever), Eric Norlander (Roswell Six, Lana Lane), Rene Merkelbach (Kingfisher Sky, Mother Earth by Within Temptation), and Richard Andersson (Angtoria). A very enjoyable listen and if you like the Roswell Six, big melodic songs, and lots of fantastic synth solos (and I do!) this is also worth seeking out. 8.5 out of 10 (Reviewed by Phil Wooldridge)

...If I get such an extraordinary personnel in the credits, I want to get equally extraordinaire stuff! And what did we get? I am lost for words, since "Expedition: Delta" is a mixture of progressive virtuosity and pop music! As you can guess, it is extremely difficult to join hit tunes with instrumental mastery and complexity. It is not strange that only cleverest musicians like Srdjan Brankovic and his buddies are able to gain such a great result. Moreover, here is a beautiful male singing coupled with wonderful female voices and additionally sunk in a multi-mooded layer of progressive virtuosity. A high-technical moments are contrasted against melodic vocal lines and backed by excellent keyboard and guitar solos. "Expedition: Delta" is the album with an accessible progressive-fuelled compositions that should propel Srdjan and the rest of his crew to the top. They produced cosmic progressive pop metal armed with perfect arrangements, brilliant ideas and excellent performance. Undoubtedly, it is one of the greatest progressive metal albums in the history of the genre!!! I am totally delighted!!!

...The musicians involved have turned this record into a great comprehensive work rather than a collection of good songs with a few that stand out against the others. Every song is great on this album, and each member contributed a fantastic performance. "Fading Images" is triumphant and high-energy. "Self Abstract" has heavier moments, and a lot of crunchier guitars. It also has a huge string of keyboard solos from Andersson that are simply magnificent. You can't stop that guy!..

EXPEDITION DELTA is started by Srdjan Brankovic, one of the founders of Alogia which is surely the best-selling Serbian progmetal band. Beside Alogia, Srdjan is working and has worked as a member/composer for many bands . As a player in these bands, he holds huge number of live shows and festivals and among many other concerts he opened for bands such as Whitesnake, Apocalyptica, Savatage, Paul Di Anno . Our Serbian friend succeeded to get a lot of big names for this project: Gary Wehrkamp, Sabine Edelsbacher, Erik Norlander and Joost van den Broek, to name a few. The project was recorded in the (his?) Paradox studios, although I doubt that every musician was actually there; that hardly happens anymore in 2008. However, the result of this project is amazing ! Melodic rock crosses over with pure prog ("Fading Images"), powerful vocals, heavy guitar riffs and yes, even operatic pieces. The big difference with other projects like Ayreon and Avantasia is the fact that Srdjan invited more musicians and did not emphasize on guest singers. His own Alogia singer Nicola Mijic does a good job, together with the lady singers that share a pice of the vocals on this album. This is an album you have to listen to to really understand and believe what it's about, but progrockers will agree, this is a masterpiece.

...This album just hums with the sort of catchy melodies which graced the classic heard rock albums of the 80s. However what sets this apart is the ability of Srdjan to compose songs which have that added depth, combining to good effect the better elements of prog, metal and AOR. Think Journey-meets-Ayreon-meets-Redemption on a blind date with Heart and you’ll be heading in the right musical direction...

...The guitars in particular are in shredder's mode on most of the tracks. Some compositions are interesting and true to the metal spirit, but with hints of complexities that made them reach beyond simple metal rock. At the same time, some tracks are sufficiently melodic to be played on commercial radio and the singing of Nikola Mijic, Sabine Edelsbacher, Irina Kapetanovic and Aleksandra Jankovich is the main ingredient explaining it. At other times, they are bordering on symphonic metal in part as a result of the keys, in part in consequence of the kind of drumming used. Finally some tunes are straightforward rock. When I listen to them, bands with wide appeal like Asia, Rush, more near us Port Mahadia or even classics like Def Leppard and Iron Maiden come also to my mind...

Expedition Delta is a project formed by Srdjan Brankovic, one of the founders of Alogia, the biggest selling prog metal band in Serbia. I must be honest and say that didn’t mean anything to me until I spotted that Alogia had opened for bands such as Whitesnake and Savatage. You don’t get those slots unless you have something about you and this was only reinforced when listening to “Expedition Delta” as it's thoroughly entertaining and pretty impressive thanks to some great songs bolstered by rather fabulous musicianship...

...The album ends with the song “It Needs a Happy End” and that it does. It has some very strong classic rock influences mixed in with the prog complexity of instrumental breakdowns. I was very happy with the entire album, and it will remain a CD that I will have no problems with listening to on numerous occasions. I hope to hear more from Brankovic, perhaps another expedition. Pick this one up and don’t let it collect dust.

Sometimes you are totally caught off guard by an album you have absolutely no expectations for at all. Expedition Delta is one of those cases, but looking at the list of guests it really shouldn't be such a surprise. Gary Wehrkamp (Shadow Gallery), Andrea De Paoli (Labyrinth), Richard Andersson (Time Requiem), Erik Norlander, Joest van den Broek (After Forever), Sabine Edelsbacher (Edenbridge), Torsten Roehre (Silent Force), Santiago Dobles (Aghora) and many others have taken part on this album from this Serbian band. The album is the brainchild of Serbian guitarist Srdjan Brankovic, who has written all of the music and lyrics for this project. He shows excellent musicianship on many occasions on this album, which is packed with excellent guitar leads as well as keyboard leads, all wrapped in a good and balanced sound...

...The music wiggles between prog rock and metal and that keeps it nicely varied. There are even some AOR touches audible (TNT for example in 'Move On') and tracks like these keep the album nicely going. Brankovic created room for all participants and by doing that the album stands as a solid whole. Production is great a rich and full sound, lots of effects and guitars and great vocal work. There is a basis band who gives room to the special guests and singer Nikola Mijic, who sings the majority of the songs, is one of the stars on the album. I think that we can welcome a nice surprise to this years' harvest and I truly hope that we have gained a new continuous project here...

...The eleven compositions contained on the disc were all recorded during 2005 and 2006 but have only just now been released. Most of the material here is in the three to five minute range with two tracks in the seven minute range. Musically Expedition Delta’s musical style tends to fall more in the genres mentioned above rather than prog metal although there are segments that are certainly more aggressive. These are primarily songs built around powerful keyboards and guitar interplay with plenty of soloing on display. The sound is big, dramatic, even anthemic, and while there are subtle shifts in the compositions they tend to stick pretty close to verse and chorus structure. Not that this is entirely bad, but prog fans looking for long and involved soloing with dramatic shifts in time and tempo might want to look elsewhere. It’s perhaps not surprising that the two most complex songs, at least from the arrangement side, are the two 7-minute tracks. So if you are a fan of the musical style created by bands such as Rainbow, later day Deep Purple, Whitesnake and so forth, then this will certainly appeal to your tastes...

Guitarist Srdjan Brankovic hails from Serbia and happens to play in the biggest selling progressive metal band in his country. Alogia has 2 albums to their credit as well as opening for some of the biggest international acts like Whitesnake, Savatage and Apocalyptica. This is his first foray into the English language market, grabbing some of the better guitarists and keyboard players in the business such as Gary Wehrkamp (Shadow Gallery), Andrea De Paoli (Labyrinth), Richard Andersson (Time Requiem), Erik Norlander and many others across the board. With all the right musicians in place, Srdjan certainly put forth an outstanding debut 11 song effort with this project...

...Reading the credits on the booklet surely will astound even the experienced progrock fan, since there are guests from such groups as Shadow Gallery, Within Temptation, Lana Lane, Silent Force, Time Requiem, Labyrinth, After Forever and Edenbridge just to name some. The album builds up track by track while painting a pleasant imagery consisting of intriguing yet catchy melodies and profound musicianship. Production-wise the album is also rather good, though it isn't entirely free from shortcomings. All in all, Expedition delta is a truly enjoyable album, which I would recommend to all progressive rock fans... so close your eyes and enjoy the vivid, adventurous sonic journey that expedition delta offers.

...The first two tracks "Asunder Hearts" and "Fading Images" are ultra catchy fare that could easily tear up FM rock radio if given the chance, filled with soaring male & female vocals, catchy hooks, ripping guitar & keyboard solos, and tight rhythms. Brankovic is a stunning player, his solos melodic yet full of jaw dropping technique, and he takes every opportunity to get into some intense shredding duals with the many keyboard players assembled for the CD. On "Into the Halls of Eternity" he gets into a wicked exchange with Aghora guitarist Santiago Dobies, and shares some wild moments with Wehrkamp & van den Broek on the dazzling instrumental "Flight With the Mind". The female vocals on the album are provided by Edenbridge's Sabine Edelsbacher, as well as Irina Kaperanovic and Aleksandra Jankovic, all three doing a fine job and meshing with Mijic's powerful male vocals quite nicely. Other hot tracks are the addicting "Move On" (another song that could have easily been a radio hit back in the 80's), the spacey "Planets" (complete with Norlander's signature Moog stamp), the complex progressive metal of "Reach For the Light", and the upbeat, symphonic prog closer "It Needs a Happy End", the latter a great vehicle for Mijic's passionate vocals...
