"Project Creation part I - The Floating World" tells the story of a dying planet, whose advanced Civilization develops a world-like ship, capable of carrying a great deal of the population. In the beginning, this ship leaves the planet, with about 40% of the population, in search of a possible World to live in (the trip lasts for about 5 years). Their goal is to give life to dead planets, and to search for a possible planet to live in. They find a Dead planet, create an artificial sun to rapidly develop life and good conditions there. A pyramid is built to mark their creation. The pyramid is also created so that their children, growing up there, might know that they're not alone and that their friends shall be back. Then they return to their home planet, to "pick up" the rest of the population. The so called “Mechanical Dragonflies” are semi organic beings (in shape of a Dragonfly) that live inside the Floating World, and are mentally "controlled" by the ship's commanders and scientists. Their goal is to search for suitable planets to live. They also help to energize the planet with mechanical lullabies, produced by their Meka-Organic vocals chords.

...Similar in style to their 2005 release The Floating World, Dawn on Pyther picks up the story where the first left off. It’s quite a complex story but suffice to say it involves the repopulation of new worlds with humans and dragonflies with ancient Egyptian influences. There’s more to it than that, but you’ll have to read the lyrics. Again musically I would classify this as EPIC-HEAVY-Symphonic, with plenty of double kick-drum and heavy guitars. What keeps this from simply sounding like prog-metal is that the core of the songs are very symphonic with many outside influences such as classical and Celtic. When the guitar and drums settle down the music is very symphonic and takes a much softer, more intricate tone. But let me be clear, there are 10 tracks here, and half of them are around 10-minutes long so the intensity of this disc is high. On a scale of 1-to-10 there are many times where this is an 11. It should be pointed out that there are many softer, mellower moments that connect elements of the story but one comes away from this disc remembering more of the aggression than the pastoral...

...The Floating World is an album that should please most prog rock and metal fans. While it's certainly not the greatest thing to grace progressive music, it's definitely a very viable alternative to the standard stuff like Dream Theater. For fans of Inside Out records stuff, definitely.

...As you might expect, guitar also plays a grand role in the scheme of things -- the fiery leads we've come to expect from Flores are there, though some leads are played by Patricio -- but never for the sake of just being there. These are wholly composed and thought out pieces, making Project Creation's debut a strong beginning, with richly layered textures of sound, an interesting storyline that, while not entirely unique, isn't so cliché ridden that it becomes bothersome. Put that down to strong, engaging performances that make it seem fresh. Project Creation feels more fully fleshed than Out Of Place, perhaps because there are more "voices" involved, because Flores has incorporated more textures into the music, or because he has continued to mature as songwriter... or perhaps a combination of all three. Very well done...

...In order to be more theatrical the whole concept of "Floating World" we have two singers a male and a female one. The whole album is well written and inside the compositions you can find some really impressive ideas, but in the same time you will find yourself "caught" inside this concept. I believe that again Hugo has done a great job, even if you need a "clear" mind in order to feel and accept all the things that they give to us through their album. Another progressive rock monument.

...Given the artwork and images I began to expect keyboard/synthesizer driven progressive rock. Not that I was wrong in my original impression, I was pleased that guitars are more prominent than I might have thought to be the case. But, as I’ve come to find out as a result of a little research, Project Creation is not quite as heavy or guitar oriented as Flores’ main project Sonic Pulsar (a group widely regarded and respected in progressive metal circles). Saxophone and flute provide the kinds of sounds that evoke what genesis would sound like – as if space dust were collecting to form planets. Although the sound here evokes something more like the creation of an actual new planet (i.e. like the big bang), the overall gist of the concept album is pleasing and satisfying...

...Musically we're speaking progressive metal, mixed with lots of ambient sounding moods; where the synth seems to be the central focus of the musical output. Despite of that; Ayreon was the closest musical reference I could make for this release - perhaps due to the science fiction story on display as well as the grandiosity of the soundscape served here...

...Most of the songs contain wonderful melodies, as well as layered compositions which make this CD quite an enjoyable listening experience. There’s a great deal of technical prowess; but no shredding or show-offs, thankfully... Most of the songs differ from each other in regard of style and mood, yet they form a fine unity in the end. Complex, silent, furious, elegiac, atmospheric, spacey, folky passages are all aplenty in this CD and show us how a “diverse” record should sound like. I don’t see the point to mention some standout tracks for conceptual albums, since mostly there are none. Floating World is no exception regarding this issue and must be listened right from the start till the end. Trust me, it’s a quite rewarding process and will be worth your time...

Project Creation is another band of Hugo Flores from Sonic Pulsar. Actually I know Hugo from his main band. I was really curious to hear this project because now Hugo had to deal and to explore new paths of progressive rock music. First of all here we have a full album, with fourteen tracks and more than seventy minutes of great progressive music. I think I can say that here we have the top progressive musicians from Portugal...

... "Floating World" is also a nice display of nice abilities from other portuguese artists. The opening track, THE FLOATING WORLD, is full of subject and sets a great atmosphere for the rest of the album. The powerful instrumentation is the perfect companion for Linx (Forgotten Suns singer) vocals. The assembly of more real musicians was a significant step ahead from the Hugo's previous works. LIVING UNDER A BLUE SKY continues to display the same epic outline without over-complicating the song's structure. Paulo Chagas' sax makes a nice introduction here. A sweet interlude, THE DESERT PLANET, comes right on time to calm things down and help settle the dust. THe electronic textures are very colourful and smooth, clashing with the raw guitar sounds, as it happens in THE CIVILIZATION and WARMING UP THE MACHINE, for example. Hugo keeps using heavy rhythms and tracks are getting rather odd structures as the album unfolds. Alda Reis lovely vocals help to balance the overall sound. ..

This CD opens with “The Floating World” that is the title track with a dark and mysterious sound. In this band participates Hugo Flores, whom we have already reviewed with his projects Sonic Pulsar and Atlantis. There are a lot keyboards in this recording creating many atmospheres and there is also much experimentation with melodies. Flores guitar is heavy and that is essential to give more power to the compositions. The compositions are very powerful and have a very epic sound. I have to remark that this are very good musicians with plenty of technical skills, which is necessary to obtain the good results of this album. There are heavier tracks, ideal to shake your head, as for example the title track and also there are more acoustic moments like for example “Living Under a Blue Sky”. There is an essential element also that is the combination of male voices with interesting female ones that deliver haunting melodies. There is a good concept behind this album dealing with civilizations, Egypt and worlds development. The very good sound of this album must be remarked also. A good band with killer melodic ideas.

... The culmination of Flores's work to date, this is an extremely diverse composition, revealing novelties on many levels, partly thanks to a wide use of flute, acoustic guitar and sitar (the latter unmistakably bringing a rich oriental flavor to the stuff) - brilliant! Another piece displaying Hugo and his cohort forging their own way far outside of the genre's usual limits is the relatively short instrumental The Desert Planet - a piano and cello-rich piece with a nearly chamber sound, which is in many ways kept even in its finale where the sunny piano suddenly meets eerie guitar riffs. The instrumental sections of the songs Arriving and Cheops can be described with the very same words and terms I've used while commenting on Artificial Satellite, save the mere fact that these two are free of heaviness...

It is amazing to me how many CD’s are released these days that fall into what I would classify as HEAVY-Symphonic. Not really Prog-metal by any stretch of the imagination these recordings do have the heavy guitars and drums but there is so much more happening musically that qualifies them for a broader description. Take for example The Floating World by Project Creation. This concept is the work of multi-instrumentalist Hugo Flores. As a touchstone reference point think Aryeon. Now to be honest, some of the work in this field fails to live up to expectations, whatever they may be. But then others seem to have the magic. And to my ears Project Creation definitely has the magic...

...I don't know too much about this artist or project, but this is certainly one to listen to. 'Atmospheric metal' may or may not not be an actual acknowledged sub-sub-genre, but FLOATING WORLD is an example. Hugo Flores may be the guy to keep an ear out for in the future.

...One thing I must confess as a reviewer is I keep wanting to just listen to this album, it’s that good! This makes it harder to get other reviews done but it show the lasting power of the music long after the album is over. I would say this is one of the best releases to come from progrock records this year. In fact I would give it a glowing recommendation especially for fans of the harder side of the progressive rock spectrum. I can’t wait for more!

...Project Creation is a progressive rock opera, such as, Tommy, or Quadrophenia. We've had Hugo tell the story of Project Creation on The Music Guru Show, but, if you haven't heard the interview, the story is about a dying planet. The people make a world sized ship, which can only carry some of the people. The ship leaves the planet with only a portion of the planet, looking for a real planet, for them to live, create an artificial sun & make life thrive. They, then go back to the dying planet to pick up the rest of the people, so that they can thrive. "Arriving", which is track 6 on the disc, seems to incorporate many different world instruments. It also starts off on a slower pace, then picks up. I really like this track. Everything on this album flows very well together. This disc is rated 5 out of 5 Music Guru stars. This is available from ProgRock Records. Pick it up. You will be very happy that you did...

...It is impossible to describe this music without making comparisons to Ayreon. Project Creation is more contained, not as over-produced, and it doesn't share quite the same flair, but it shares the pleasing melodies, diverse songwriting and imaginative compositions. There's nothing new here, but it's a well constructed, very enjoyable body of work. This was Part 1, and Flores has plans to release parts 2 and 3. And if he continues the growth we've witnessed since the first Sonic Pulsar album, expect big things from the Iberian peninsula. And like our closing comment on the last Sonic Pulsar album - we'll close with a "Well recommended."

...From all written above you must have already figure the album out. It is a game of balance between power and melody, excess and control, expansion and intimacy, shout and smooth. The album mixes symphonic with heavy, new age with metal, progressive with pure rock. And it connects those different aspects in a bright and complex net of constant changes, with atmospheric and even eerie bridges between more powerful parts. I would not consider it Prog-Metal, but more like a bombastic Neo-Prog with symphonic elements which both fans of Prog-Metal and Neo Sympho Prog will undoubtedly like...

Multi-instrumentalist HUGO FLORES has a new project called PROJECT CREATION. He is known for his SONIC PULSAR project, but now his new project PROJECT CREATION shows the man is able to do even bigger things, because the released CD ‘The floating world’ is a very good Melodic Progressive Rock/Metal release that sounds like a cross between VANDENPLAS, SHADOW GALLERY and STREAM OF PASSION. Hugo is a multi-instrumentalist, but on this PROJECT CREATION he was helped by some guest musicians, although most of the instruments were played by Hugo himself. On vocals we can hear besides Hugo also LINX from FORGOTTEN SUNS, the best known Portuguese Progressive Rockband ever, and female singer Alda Reis makes an appearance on the album. Without a doubt, this is a high quality release, but that’s usually the case with the releases on the American progressive rocklabel PROGROCK RECORDS. Highlights are “The floating world”, “The civilization”, “Arriving” and “Artificial satellite”. Recommended to all progressive rock/metal fans!

Hugo Flores’ new incarnation is Project Creation. The multi-instrumentalist joins up with nine different musicians and vocalists to create the concept album Floating World. The sound is very similar to Ken’s Novel’s debut. This is progressive rock with grooving bass lines, counter-melody keyboards, and sold and full guitar leads. The vocals, although telling a story, basically act as another instrument. The music is full and busy but escapes falling into the area of bombast. It isn’t overblown like Magellan...

.... Just imagine someone doing rope walking in a fight scene from a karate movie and this has a similar sound. The slower tracks are #3 and #6. Selection #3 reminds me of a slow dance scene for a movie or some romantic moment between lovers. Track #6 has a more mid-tempo sound with keyboard, drums, horns, and a guitar that creates a subtley that transitions into male vocals and more rock music that is not as fast-paced. This is a consistent CD for choosing what emotion someone scoring a film would want to create. Overall good quality, emotionally balanced songs that could help a movie-goer enjoy the music, without sound overkill.

...More ‘rock’ oriented than metal, there are the hard-edged elements there, but the musical prominence of the occasional prog-pop prowess involved ala Sylvain and Mostly Autumn fused with the convoluted musical attack of bands such as Transatlantic or Sieges Even (don’t forget Ayreon). Yes you do have the hooks, melodies, and catchiness involved, but of course, the room for soloing that Flores and Co. presented was used to the fullest, with solos and technical sub-improvisational interludes present everywhere within all of the guitars, synth noises, keyboards, woodwinds/saxes, and atmospheric pads that compliment the multifaceted arrangements that range from straight forward aggressive rock to jazz/fusion...
